Configure TCP/IP for Windows 2000

Step 1 of 10
  • Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  • Double-click the Control Panel icon.
  • Double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon.
  • Click once on the the Net2U Internet icon inside the Network and Dial-up Connections window so that the Net2U Internet icon is highlighted.

  • Click on the File menu located at the top of the window so that the drop down menu appears.
  • Click once on Properties.

  • In the window that is now open, click once on the Networking tab located at the top of the window.

  • In the area titled Type of dial-up server I am calling select PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet.
  • In the area that displays the network components that are installed in your system, click once on the entry titled Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) so that it is highlighted.
  • Click once on the properties button, a new window will open.

  • Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  • Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  • Click once on the Advanced button located towards the bottom of the window.

  • Click on the General tab located at the top of the window.
  • Place a tick next to Use default gateway on remote network.
  • Place a tick next to Use IP header compression.
  • Click on the tab titled DNS located at the top of the window.
Step 7 of 10
  • Ensure that the box titled DNS server address, in order of use is empty.
  • If there are any entries in this box, click once on each entry highlight them then click the Remove button.
  • Select Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes.
  • Place a tick next to Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix.
  • Place a tick next to Register this connection's address in DNS.
  • Click on the tab titled WINS located at the top of the window.
Step 8 of 10
  • Ensure that the box titled WINS addresses, in order of use is empty of any entries. If there are any entries in this box, click on the entry so that it is highlighted then click the Remove button located under the box.
  • Place a tick next to Enable LMHOSTS lookup.
  • Click the OK button.

  • You will be returned to this window.
  • Click the OK button.
Step 10 of 10
  • Click the OK button to close the Net2U Internet Properties window.
